Where do you plan to go? Clarke quay area, ive stayed in rucksack inn, theres another hostel a floor above/ below it, location is good but dorm is abit too crowded/sweaty.. If you are goin around chinatown, go no further, beary good hostel.. Its good, perfect location, comfy room, good breakfast.. if u r goin other place near mrt stops, u can stay at beary good too.. The hostel is like 50metres to mrt entrance..
If you are in need for some retail therapy, Singapore is certainly the place to be. Last time I checked into some of the best hotels in Singapore, I first got to Orchard Road and began my shopping spree!
Ive just got back from thailand and singapore and i stayed in 2 places, first place I stayed in backpackers hostel, in china town. Great location, from the locals I was told that the food court opposite was the most popular in Singapore, and it's very cheap to eat there! They have wifi, private or dorms, and was cheap for Singapore. Second was a place called dropinn. Pretty good location, wifi and everything, I only stayed there for 1 night compared to the 4 of backpackers but it seemed pretty good. Breakfast was complementary in both as well.

I totally agree wit sz3rin.. =D Stayed there & luving it.. that would be the place I would stay again for another visit to Singapore

I think YWCA Fort Canning Lodge Singapore is best and affordable for you i have no idea about your planing anyway thanks.
