Phoenix, The Grand Canyon

I am happy to say plans for my next trip are quickly coming together. Coming home from the Carolinas I came across a small story in the planes magazine on a detour to the Grand Canyon. I ripped it out and did my research and eventually came the idea of spending a nice short weekend in Phoenix to see the Grand Canyon. Not all vacations I would take alone depending on the location but i didnt mind it here.

Hi JerseyBoy,

I noticed you are going during Feb, too bad the North Rim of the Grand Canyon is closed during that time, but it will definitely be a different feel compared to the South Rim. -snip-

As for great things to do around Phoenix would be to visit the Heard Museum in Downtown. Here you can explore the museum’s rich history as one of the Phoenix area’s first cultural attractions, and see how the museum has grown to be one of the world’s finest destinations for learning about American Indian arts and cultures.

If you will be going to Sedona, you can check out the Slide Rock Canyon State Park.

Enjoy your trip!

This trip was why I joined this site several years ago. Sedona is right on the way to the south rim from Phoenix. You have to at least stop by, the "red rocks" simply appear out of nowhere and they are pretty much a must see.

The best meal I have ever eaten was at Elote's Cafe in Sedona. Of course part of that was the view from the deck and you won't want to sit outside that time of year.

Definitely another vote from me to go check out Sedona on the way. It is some amazing landscape.

I'd recommend at least spending one night inside the Grand Canyon national park. This way you can get up early and watch the sunrise. It's going to be cold like crazy, but I'm sure the memory will stick with you I think we spent two nights, so we had one full day of exploring a few of the walks etc.

It was pretty darn cold when we were there, but that was May! I can only imagine what it's like in Feb. I guess that's got its own appeal though
