The Greyhound bus will take between 28 and 34 hours, depends on your departure time. It will be over $100 each way, even with advanced purchase. flies from Springfield MO to Vegas for just over $100 round trip, advanced purchase. This is no contest, fly out to Vegas.

Not a true reflection on the price. The $100 round trip cost becomes near on $250 by the time you've added on the infamous USA tax. They add it on to just about everything, Canada do it too, from beer to petrol and a pair of pants to a flight.

thank you for your replies. I do not like to fly but 34 hours on a bus doesnt sound good either. I would drive but it takes to long and none of my friends want to go to vegas so I guess i will either fly or not go

Click on the link and try it yourself. I picked Jan 18th to leave SGF, returning from LAS on Jan. 29th. Total with taxes was $170 roundtrip. This is even less than my rounding off estimate of $100 each way.

But it's still a good 3-4 hours drive from Kansas City to Springfield. The cheapest flight I've seen so far through flight search sites indicate about $230 for return flight from Kansas City to Las Vegas, including taxes.

So if flights from Springfield works out to about $170, the difference would be about $60. Account in approximately 7-8 driving hours (to/fro between Kansas City and Springfield), you'll be paying considerable amount to gas for this accidental road trip, the savings in the end - is it even worth it?

Have you consider taking Amtrak? It will be long journey though, approximately 15 hours one-way, but it'll be straight from Kansas City (compare if using Springfield Airport, that's appx 4 hours driving time, 1.5 hours check-in, 5-6 hours flight -> 10.5-11.5 hours). The ticket from what I can see at the moment for travel in mid-January is $92 one-way.

It'll at least be much shorter in terms of travelling time compared to Greyhound.

According to their website, on those dates, it's $220 inc tax.
Is Alligent (as you spell it) the same as the one I'm looking at.. Allegiantair.com? Cos I'm getting $50 more than what you're seeing on those dates.

Yes I have considered Amtrak but it doesnt go to Las Vegas. I would have to stop somewhere and get a bus to there. If anyoen has used Amtrak then wher is the closest stop to Vegas. thank you for your ideas. Amtrak does sound better than bus.

Oh dear, I just went back and have a look at the search I did yesterday and apparently I was trying to go to Las Vegas in New Mexico, not Nevada!

Now, doing a new proper search to Las Vegas in Nevada, I can say you DO NOT want to go by Amtrak. The price is crazy, the changes are numerous, and the duration is even worse than the bus. You know what, I should shut my mouth from now on when it comes to transportation in US. Apparently I'm rubbish at it. I'm sooooo sorry. Really. I am. Sorry!
