Thailand - Same Old Safety Question

Dress modestly, keep a low profile, don't rely on strangers, you should be fine.

The people that get into trouble are those who "let go", and leave common sense at home.

There has never been any report of a foreigner being kidnapped in Thailand. Your sources have mistaken Thailand for The Philippines. As a solo-female travller just your common sense as Curt when out and about as you would in your own country.
Contrary to popular belief, Thais don't find blonde hair that attractive - they prefer dark colour.

You'll have a great safe time in Thailand, trust me.

rys,
I doubt you will travel by yourself very long. There are so many young females bumping around Thailand that you will be amazed. I suggest you head over to Khao San Road once in BKK. There are bound to be other single females at your guesthouse. Or where you eat, or on any tour you take. If you are outgoing out all, you will meet another that is heading the same place you are.

I altered my route to travel with some guys I met on Samui. I then stayed on Railay Beach extra days because I met a Brit girl to I connected with. This happens all the time in Thailand. Like stated before, use your common sense, keep your female radar on and you will have a great time.

If you are concerned about your safety, since you are traveling alone in a foreign country, I would suggest that you do a short village home stay with a local family. You will experience in-depth about the Thai culture and enjoy the delicious/authentic home-cook food. You will be able to cook a few Thai dishes while you are staying with the family.

At the same time, see first-hand, how your money benefits local communities. A supplementary income
support a better quality of life in a rice farming village.

PM me for the home stay website, should you be interested.

Happy travels.

???? Can you give me one (1) example of a kidnapped tourist in the Philippines? I'm sure you'll have a hard time finding one...

But Oz thinks it's a threat.

you've got some pretty great advice here already by other posters, you'll be fine. i've travelled all over thailand and never felt threatened, and met lots of single female travellers doing the same. the only place i'd say be vigilant is at a Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan- excessively wasted, predatory guys everywhere when I went. go with a friend.

Pff, last January/February I travelled to mainland Mindanao, northern coast and Zamboanga peninsula and never felt unsafe or saw any violence. Even the filipino's over there say it's 100% nowadays! I've visited farms in what was 'no mans land' before a few years, but thanks to the efforts of both the local and central government, all these places are safe to visit...
