advice and tips with hostels in sydney

hiya all im from the east mids (loughborough). im travelling to australia in december to start a one year working holiday. its the first time im going backpacking and the first time i will be travelling alone. im not nervous or apprehensive about the trip, i cant wait for it to get started, who knows what the year ahead is going to bring.
im just in the proccess of sorting out my accom for the xmas and new year period. ive gone through most of the hostels and looked at reviews but which hostels would you recomend? the list i have right now with available rooms over xmas is

Are you planning on staying in the same place for xmas as well as new years? There's actually a few more / better options available if you split it up and stay one place for christmas and another for new years. As you would know, all the best places are pretty much booked out already for New Years. But not quite for Christmas.

I'd recommend , which is showing availability until the 26th of December still. This place always gets positive reviews. Might as well be there while you can!

After the 26th, you can resort to whatever is available for New Years. Some might require you to book for a full week though. I'm not personally familiar with any of the options you've listed. I'd just avoid Kings Cross if possible. Not my favourite part of the world - though of course some people do like it.

Hi,
your right to be excited! its so much fun. When I was in Sydney I stayed at the Globe and would recomend it to anybody traveling alone, Its full of fun people and as its quite small, you get to know everybody! plus its in the heart of Kingscross with lots of things happening! so around xmas/new year time it will be party, party, party! :D
Hope you have fun!
Sam

Hey I'm staying at the globe for xmas and new year as i didn't really wanna spend a fortune and most places was fully booked theres mixed reviews about it but it's like that in most places. Just try and book it asap as theres not many places left.xx

heya sarah,

yeah the globe is on my list too, for whats still alvailable its actually quite high up on my list lol..what are your plans for xmas and new years, im planning on bondi beach for xmas day and harbour bridge/ bondi beach on new years.
how long are you planning on staying out in aus?

Hey a.v.99 that's exactly what I plan on doing. I wanted to stay at Bondi for xmas and nye but it was all booked never mind should be fun no matter where we are! I arrive in Australia 8th November and have booked onto the ozintro thing for the week, then I plan on staying in Sydney till new year and then after that I have no idea. I wanna go travel around abit but by then I was kinda hoping to have meet a few people and just go with them.

Whats your plans?

xxx

hey sarah

yeah i had a look too, but the globe seems like a pretty fun place, i know there are gonna be pple that say its not all that good but i think if your looking to party its a pretty good place to meet pple anf have some fun.
im getting to aus a few days before xmas. i looked at the ozintro thing but decided not to do it.
im thinking about staying in syd for like a week after new years then im going to head down to south aus and start working my way up the east till i get to the top and then back down to sydney before i go back home b4 xmas next year, i reckon we will meet so many pple when were travelling that will be heading in which ever direction we wanna go.....are you starting to get extited about the whole trip? i just cant stop looking up things about aus and the things i can do out there ..... im gonna just find random work as i go along.

yeah I thought it would be ok to stay there as it's christmas everyones gunna wanna go out so it should be a laugh. My friend whose been to Australia before says not to go to Cairns after new year because of the rainy season which kinda puts out my plans as I was gunna fly there and work my way back down to Sydney. After that then I'm flying to Perth to visit my family and then back to Sydney for abit, then to Wellington to see my friends and then back to Sydney to fly back in May. I doubt I will fit it all in but I'm gunna try! Have you booked your hostel yet?

yeah i was kinda gonna do the same thing start from cairns and work down but like yourself i found out about the weather season so im gonna go oppasite to the seasons, start down south as its cooler and still summer then work my way up against it. im not sure if im going to go over to the west, i might do but i want to try and fit a bit of nz in there too.
ive not booked my hostel yet, im planning on doing that in the next couple of weeks. im having to wait for my new cc card to come through before i start booking things but ive got prices for everything so fingers crossed in the next couple of weeks i should have everything booked and bought. have got everything booked, and sorted out?
