I am going to the 2011 Carnival in Salvador and Rio in Brazil next year - Have already organised all my accomodation and flights.
Though how do I buy the tickets to the Salvador blocos? And Brazil carnival?
Is it better to buy tickets online? Or wait til I am in Brazil to purchase the tickets?
Any advice would be much appreciated!!

We booked our tickets through student flights couple of weeks ago and she said we are lucky we put our deposits down because its all sold out?? dont know how true that is.

Which accom have you booked?? I am looking for something cheap and close to all the action.
It's rubbish if you've been told that the tickets for the salvador carnival are sold out. I went this year and only booked accommodation. There were tickets for all the blocos and camarotes for sale every day, so there is no need to book in advance. However, we found that they were too expensive for our budget so we experience the real carnival on the street, which was fantastic and we felt perfectly safe (2 females) and if anything we found that if it got busy (and it did at time with a bit of pushing etc - because there are zillions of people there all dancing and partying) there was always someone that would protect us and move us away from the trouble. We had a blast and have already booked our flights for next year.
We did carnival in Ondina, there is nothing cheap about the accomodation around carnival time! I stayed in the hotel Vila gale (which I think is already booked up - most places will be), which is right on the carnival route - very noisy but if you want to experience carnival then it was fantastic. Next year I am going for 2 months, so am staying further along the coast in jardim de alah, which is a short bus ride away from ondina....and much cheaper to stay!
If you want any more info let me know. After going this year I now have many brazilian friends that live in Salvador so I can easily get the true answers from them. I asked my friend to book my apartment so I wasn't charged foreign prices ;o)

2 girls travelling from Australia hoping to be in Salvador for carnaval next year. We are very last minute with booking & would appreciate any tips/info on accomodation, ideally an apartment - hostels are over $100/night which is a bit steep.

Hi jo99 im planing a last min trip to brazil for the carnival was it ssafe for you to take an camra with you as i would like to take mine on the carnival plus do u have any tips for us all to deffo do before we get there and you say your staying a lil bus drive away is it safe to catch the local buses?? thank you

it seem like there will be loads of us there just from this website sound cool tho I have 6 months to do SA how about every one els ps is it worth going to chili
i have a Brazilian friend who goes to Carnaval most years and she told me that i should book abadas/passes now as they will be a lot cheaper - for the best performers like Chiclete she said you can get a 34 days pass for 450 reis. You can still buy them when you are out there but it will be more expensive, maybe something like 500 USD! Just need to find the website that sells them cheap - anyone found a decent website for this?
