Me and my boyfriend are getting to Sydney on the 5th December. We were going to stay in Sydney but the hostels are so expensive. So were trying to find somewhere else not to far away. Starting near the bottom and travelling upwards I think. So we don't back track.

yeah im doing the same thing, im going to stay in sydney for a week or 2 after new years then heading straight down to south aus and working my up the east..do you guys know the route your gonna take or are you just going to play it by ear?

I am travelling alone in Australia, also got a working visa and planning to stay in OZ for about 8months in total, starting in sydney from 18th Nov till about 10th Jan and then heading up the east coast. I think a lot of the hostels are booked up up over xmas and ny now.... booked mine back in July! How are u planning to get around OZ?

hey lizzy, yeah ive looked and been in contact with a few hostels that still have rooms avail, i should be booking my room during this comming week.
im planning on staying in sydney for a week or so after new years then im gonna get a flight down to adelaide and work my way around and up the east coast, im planning on spending a couple of months in each state then back to sydney before i go home. all going well im planning to stay out there for a whole year. im gonna get around, trains, buses, planes, hitch rides with other travellers heading in the same direction..what about you? have you planned out what you want to do and the places you want to go and visit or are you just going up the east coast and play it by ear?
Yea I havent really made any firm plans about where I am going, how I am getting there etc. I will just wait n see what happens and who I meet along the way. I would like to hire a camper van for part of it but will obv wait n see who else is up for this when i get out there. Cant wait now :-)

yeah tell me about it, im like counting down the weeks lol. its gonna be a amazing year and all the different new pple we're gonna meet along the way.
im kinda looking at some of the places i want to go to so i have a rough idea of my route so im not going into it completly blind. your campervan idea is a good one, be able to get around in your own time and will save you on accom in some places. see if i met pple along the way that were doing that and were heading in the same kind of direction as me, id happily be up for it.
what made you decide to go to aus?
Were just going play it by ear. But deco starting south then working upwards. Still looking at hostels but not sure where to stay if not in Sydney. The party on bond beach sounds good, looking forward to meeting loads of new people. But still got 2 months till arrive. What hostels have people been looking at?

heya emma, im planning on flying out to aus between 18th -22nd dec. im heading straight to sydney and im gonna spend my xmas and new years on bondi beach. i think there are quite a few pple that have wrote in these forums that are planning on doing the same thing. there are only a few hostels left that still have rooms avail.
are you planning on flying out from gatwick or heathrow?
