Winter Car Rental from Ottawa to Montreal

Weather will be cold, but tends to fluctuate up and down, so bring clothes you can wear in layers. November and December expect anywhere between -10C and 10C. The wind can be the real killer, so bring a hat and gloves, and a jacket that is decent in wind.

For a car, a regular car will be fine. It is well maintained highway driving for the most part between the two.

2 hour trip one way, temps cool to cold, blizzards are a possibility..

I live in Ottawa and yes at this time of year it will be cold - lots of cold wind. Definitely wear layers and have a hat, scarf and gloves. Snow is incredibly unpredictable. Most years it seems that we don't get snow that stays on the ground until the 3rd week in December or so but some years we've gotten snow as early as the beginning of November. The streets are plowed though and the roads are salted so the driving is good. I don't have 4 wheel drive and I do just fine throughout the winter. Hope you have a good trip!

Thank you all for your advice! Definitely very helpful! Hopefully, there wouldn't be a blizzard.

If cost is a concern to you, many car rental agencies have weekend special rates. Pick up Friday, drop off Monday can be MUCH cheaper than during the week.

If you don't NEED a car, you might want to try a rideshare. Craigslist offers lots of rideshares between Ottawa and Montreal for about $15 each way.

Dave

Thanks Dave for the advice!
