1ST Time going to Thailand.....help needed???

thejas23 has indicated that this thread is about Thailand

Is there a particular reason why you want to go to Pattaya and possibly Phuket? There are so many nicer beaches and islands in Thailand; Krabi, Phi Phi and Ko Phangan to name but a few. If you do go to Phuket, Hat Karon is one of the nicer parts; Patong (the main strip) is best avoided in my opinion.

2-3 days in Bangkok is about right to see the main sights. For cheap accommodation I'd recommend heading to Soi Rambuttri - there are several budget guesthouses on and around this street and also some cheap places to eat. It's a good area in which to meet other travellers too.

If you are looking for "guest friendly" hotels then skip Phuket. Phuket is the most expensive beach area in Thailand if you are trying to save money. Pattaya is only a couple hours away from Bangkok. Hotels are cheaper and local transportation at 10 baht is cheaper too!

It all depends on what you want to do. Beaches in the Phuket area are better for actual swimming activities! Beach at Pattaya City is not so good for swimming, excellent for sunbathing, restaurants, nightlife, malls, street vendors, etc.

Up to you - fly to Phuket, spend more on hotels and local transportation but actually swim or go to Pattaya and do everything cheaper! Tourists usually use hotel pools in Pattaya or swim off of Koh Larn Island (ferry boat ride is 30 baht from Bali Hai Pier, Walking Street.) Or, swim at Jomtien Beach.

Spend a couple days in Bangkok in the beginning and a final night or two before you fly home. For nightlife (you are asking for guest friendly hotels) stay on/near Sukhumvit Road, Nana Area. You can use the Skytrain to take you to the Ekamai bus terminal for bus rides (around 113 baht) to Pattaya. Or take a meter taxi or Airport Bus to the airport for the flight to Phuket. (If budget is a concern, since you are asking for hotels that are "not too expensive" Pattaya is cheaper and you do not have to pay for a flight.)

In Bangkok you can use the Skytrain from Nana Skytrain stop to take you to MBK, Patpong and other areas for shopping. MBK has lots of electronics. On Phetchaburi Road you have the Panthip Plaza where you will find electronics for sale. No Skytrain in the Khao San Road area.

In Pattaya you have several modern malls, some of them are on Pattaya 2nd Road. Get a hotel near or off of Pataya Second Road (Pattaya Sai Song) so you can walk to lots of stuff. TukCom IT Mall has a lots of electronic gizmos like Panthip Plaza. Located off of South Pattaya Road.

How much do you want to spend on a hotel room per night?

Where you go depends on what you intend to do. Pattaya has cheaper nightlife, cheaper hotels, cheaper transportation than Phuket/Patong. Phuket area has better beach opportunities.

Up to you.

we will be o 5th , 1st i will leave to pattaya may be 4 days, than back to bangkok bce i heard bangkok is a good place for shopping than pattaya is it true.........we dont want to do the shoppping in the beginning ay be the last 4 days we will......
How will be the climate in jan ??? this is my 1st trip to bangkok so do let me know the best strip club, go go bars, best massage parlours in bangkok and pattaya??

As far as major electronics like xbox or ps you will be better off ordering from a US website. People come to Thailand for knock offs. The actual real stuff is sometimes much more than in the US or Japan. As a 6 plus years Japan resident, almost all the famous Japanese electronics were ALWAYS cheaper in the US, even with shipping many times. Thailand is rife with rip offs for major electronics but if you want knock off and copied software, or off brand parts, this is a good place. I am stunned everytime I go to Thailand comparing prices whilst my European and Auzzie mates always want me to send them stuff from the US.

If "guesting" is part of your trip, no need to go to Phuket. I would also ask that question on guest friendly websites. I am sure you catch my drift.

For nightlife you can't go to wrong having a hotel in the Nana area (near Nana Skytrain stop) where you have hotels in many price ranges. Lots of nightlife on Soi 4 cheaper than Patpong. For Pattaya almost anywhere near or off of Pattaya 2nd Road will have you close to bars and other nightlife. Maybe stay around Soi 8.

Shopping for electronics depends on where you are from and what you are buying. I have purchased little odds and ends of connections, cables and minor electronics junk pretty cheap. But laptops and netbooks I can get cheaper in the US. You also have to wonder about "free" programs loaded onto laptops. If they are not genuine they will not be supported by necessary updates.

Pattaya might be cheaper for T-shirts, especially the ones that say "Pattaya" on them. But it all depends on what you are looking for. You can shop for discount clothing in the Pratunam area of Bangkok. There is a mini garment district off of Phetchaburi Road, not far from the Baiyoke Tower Hotel. Many street vendors get clothing and related items there. If you are making purchases for resale in another country there are international shippers in the Pratunam area.

There is Panthip Plaza, Phetchaburi Road, Bangkok and MBK, off a Skytrain stop, for electronics and other junk. The Chatuchak Weekend Market (off a Skytrain stop) might also be worth a look.

Most of the hotels in the 1500 baht range on down are "guest friendly" in Pattaya.

Google up Guest Friendly Hotels in Bangkok and Pattaya and you will get suggestions.

Choose a hotel for Bangkok in the Nana area. Pattaya get a hotel near Pattaya 2nd Road.

Just don't choose this hotel!

Check out the Grace Hotel for Bangkok.
