any hotel reccommendations near either MBK or the airport

Staying near the airport means you will be in the middle of nowhere! You would waste money on taxi rides just to get somewhere else! From the city to the airport by taxi will usually take around one half hour to maybe 50 minutes depending on traffic and time of day.

The airport now has a new Rail Link. This Airport Rail Link is a cheap way to get to the city from the airport. Right now until the end of December for 15 baht, taking the City Line, you can get to the Pratunam area which is good shopping.

From the airport using the City Line to the Ratchaprorop stop you can walk to this hotel. The P.R. Place. If you like shopping this is the area to be in! When you return to the airport you can use the same Rail Link. Less than 5 minute walk. Rail Link stops running at midnight at time of this writing.

Also in the Pratunam area is this Florida Hotel. Florida is located right at the end of the Rail Link, Phaya Thai stop. And it is also located right at the Phaya Thai Skytrain stop. Use the Skytrain to take you to MBK, Chatuchak, Sukhumvit for nightlife and street vendors, Patpong for nightlife and night market. Skytrain also takes you to the Ekamai bus terminal, the subway at Asoke and to Chatuchak Weekend Market. Less than 5 minute walk from Rail Link stop.

There are also discount hotels on Sukhumvit Road. Unless your girlfriend has problems with nightlife being in the area. On Sukhumvit Road you will find the Skytrain, malls, street vendors, restaurants, access to the subway and cheap accommodations.

Soi 11 Hostel is one place but there are lots of other places. Near this place is the Bangkok Inn, Business Inn and President Inn. Look for the Swiss Park Hotel for reference.

This place is near MBK. Wendy House.

Just a reminder. When you take a taxi in Bangkok insist on the meter. There are so many meter taxis that if one wants to bargain another 10 will use the meter. When you bargain the fare you pay more! The price you pay for using a meter taxi is for everyone in the taxi - NOT per person! Meter starts at 35 baht. Paying the meter fare in a taxi is CHEAPER than using a tuk-tuk! Have small bills and change for paying taxi drivers. (No Skytrain after midnight.)
