Hello all, I'm in hopes of moving to London from the United States before the end of 2011. I've bought the books on it (and I've read them at least a billion times within the last two years), but I still am not 100% sure on everything there is to do when it comes to visas. They're so confusing, one says you can go without a job for 90 days, and another says you can be in the country for 6 months. The one for entrepreneurs states that you have to have 200,000 pounds in your bank account for the business. I want to start my own interior design business, but I highly doubt that I'll need that much, at least to start. So, which do I apply for? I'll be done with my schooling before then, so the student one is out.
I think the best thing to do is definitely check any .gov.uk sites and have some meetings lined up with venture capitalists or have enough money in your bank to make your start up work.....
You wont be able to live in central London unless your a millionaire for starters!!! And the 32 boroughs of London arent very nice either unless like i said your rich! Best place is to live outside and commute in, friends i have live in St.albans and herts, other than that i know people who live where i live and commute! 60 miles each way
Check our embassy website and have a chat with the person on the phone thats what i did when i applied for my visa for your country, just asked when i rang them!
You say about living with strangers, its funny you have said it as i myself live with my lodgers, they live at my house Some ive never met before and they turn out just great.
The London Olympics in 2012 will have an impact on rental properties in and around London - why London, there are many other exciting places in the UK to live and set up a business - I love London on a day by day basis but would not choose to live there.

i've lived in london most of my life and some of the advice above is flawed.
i would say london like most cities has its dogy areas to live in and its over priced ones but a bit of common is all it takes to avoid those.
most of the boroughs are fine, personally i would avoid some of the ones in the east or south but then i'm sure someone from the southern ones would say the same about the northern ones!!
it can be pricier to stay in london, especially the centre but then the commuting costs are less, the travel times less and the social life easier to get to.
london is covered by 24hr public transport but if you have to commute much further out then you're stuffed after midnight.
i've also rented with strangers and again it's like most things in life. you takes a calculated risk and you should hopefully be ok.
Yeah i would say Edmonton in North London is not a nice place to live at all!!
Everywhere has got there good and bad places i would agree but all the people who grew up there move out becuase they dont like it, hence places like Essex are now full of Londoners as the hustle n bustle gets to much and theres no privacy!
Commuting costs far less than to live in London itself!!
My advice isnt flawed its just we have different opinions
