Travel between Vancouver and San Diego

Hey All

Be sure to visit Vancouver, then take the ferry across to Vancouver Island and visit the city of Victoria (very British), and also view the Butchard Gardens and Butterfly World. Then take the ferry through the San Juan Islands to the US (state of Washington)

Seattle--visit the Space Needle, the Experience Music Project (at the base of the Space Needle), the restaurants along Puget Sound and Lake Union, then drive over to Kirkland (northern park along Lake Washington, then east to see the Snowqualmie Falls (higher than Niagara Falls), with a stop at the Chauteau St. Michelle winery.

Go to the southern part of the state of Washington and visit the Mount St. Helens visitor center. In Portland, visit the rose gardens and tea restaurants. Go to the city of Eugene's Farmers Market on a Saturday or else drive down the Oregon Coast.

Once you get to the state of Washington, cut towards the coastline and travel through the Redwoods National Park. On the way, stop at the Trees of Mystery--and really unique place. You can't miss the giant statue of Paul Bunyon at the entrance.

Travel on down through the Redwoods and visit one of the wine areas (Russian River, Sonoma or Napa Valleys).

In San Francisco, visit Chinatown, ride a cable car, eat in Little Italy, ride across the Golden Gate Bridge, tour Ghiradelli Square and get an Irish Coffee at the Buena Vista.

On to Monterey to visit the famous aquarium, then drive the coastal portion of the 17 mile drive through Pebble Beach and Cypress Point's golf courses.

Next stop is San Simeon to see Hearst Castle, then drive on to Santa Barbara and visit the mission and dance spots on State Street. If you get to the Los Angeles area by New Years's Eve, visit the world's largest block party going on all along the 6 mile Rose Parade route (especially the western portion) in the city of Pasadena on New Years Eve from about 8 PM until 8 AM the next morning when the Rose Parade starts.

In San Marino (just east of Pasadena) take a tour of the Huntington Library and Gardens.
There is great nightlife also at the beaches near Huntington Beach and Newport Beach--or at the Universal Walk at the Irvine Center.

Last stop is San Diego. Best zoo in the country, wonderful Sea World, interesting area called Old San Diego (go early evening), and also the Gaslight District. There's also an interesting scientific museum.

Optional area to visit. Go across to Mexico and drive the toll road down to Rosarito Beach, Puerto Nuevo, and Ensenada. This takes a day each way to do it right--but if you have the time, it's very scenic and fun (although a lot more fun in the summertime).

Enjoy your trip.
