Travel buddies for Australia April 2011

Hey all,

Hey, im an aussie currently in ireland,

youv'e choosen the best time to go to AUstralia cause its after summer but before our winter! If your looking for a cheap flight from Japan to Australia there are many budget australian airlines, your best bet is Virginblue, or jetstar, they have friday frenzy sales there friday lunch between 12-1 pm i think (you better check) which is 11 infront of london time.

If your into sport i recomend you visit MCG for a match of local footy, if not the best place to be is the city centre, local transport is great, but the traffic is crazy! Lygon street if you like italian! Must do the eureka sky deck! Great central backpackers is melbourne discovery!

syndey great for beaches although be warned that it will be cold, don't just go to bondi, there are many different less tourst beaches if you ask a local! If not take a ferry to manly, good atmosphere esp on weekends! and nights.

If headng to Tasmania visit coles bay national park, great just to see the different landscape, and there is a pub in the paddock near saint columbus falls, also worth a visit to feed the pig a beer!!!

If heading to South Aus, do the barossa if you like your wine if not the d some great lobster to the south east of the city of churches (adelaide)

Perth, very relaxed, very surfy margaret river is worth a few days!

Hi Ashodasho,

Glad to hear I'm going to Oz at a good time! I've checked Jetstar but the prices are not as cheap as I hoped. Gona keep hunting!

Thanks for the all info. I'll defo refer to it when I get to Oz.

Have fun in Ireland!

Hi sean, im flying to oz on the 18th april, im flying into brisbane and making my way up to cairns, so first im gonna do fraiser island and whitsundays and great barrier reef. its quite warm then and really want to do lots of fun things first, i have a working hol visa mine come through pretty quick as well let me know where u decide to fly to.

Hi Mate,

Actually heading off from Australia (Adelaide) into Japan around that time .

For you a bit of a quick guide:

Queensland: Top Right hand side of Australia, lots of Rainforests aswell as nice beaches along the coast (known as the Gold Coast/Sunshine Coast) with a lot of night life/sky scrapers along the coast line. Also well know for having the main theme parks in Australia (Sea World, Movie World, Dream World and a few water parks.) A lot of nice bikini girls up here, and a good night life.

Sydney: In New South Wales, the biggest city in Australia. Good for the touristy type things (Opera House, Sydney Harbour, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Aquarium etc.) Really busy city, good city for night life aswell with the last place to visit at the end of the night Kings Cross. Difficult to get around at times though, especially in the early hours.

Melbourne: Probably the home of Sport in Australia, head along to the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground) for a game of AFL and enjoy. Not a huge fan of the nightlife (nor the women here to be honest) but a good night can be had. Nice place for shopping aswell.

Adelaide: Known in the eastern states as one of the quieter places, but if you know where to go it can be one of the best places in Australia. Alot of tourists end up staying and living here (especially a lot from the UK.) Known as the Festival State (Home of the Adelaide Fringe the second biggest Fringe Festival in the World) aswell as some of the best looking and most down to earth girls in Aus. Barossa Valley is known world wide for its wine, aswell as Glenelg Beach.

Perth: Somewhat similar to Adelaide but a little quieter imo.

Canberra: Interested in Politics? Nah.

Darwin: Good place to stay for a couple of nights, bit different to anywhere else in Australia.

Best Nightlife: Queensland or Sydney.
Best Women: Adelaide, Queensland and Perth.
Best Art: Melbourne and Adelaide.
Best Tourist Spots: Sydney and Queensland.

Hopefully this helps

Almost forgot about Tasmania lol.

Hobart is well known for its Nature spots but is abit out of the way (seperate island) so its a bit more expensive to get too.

Thanks very much MatTarrant for all the info on the locations you listed. It's good to read what parts of Oz have to offer.

I'm now familiar with the MCG you mentioned as yesterday we retained the Ashes there

Have a good time on Japan too!

Cheers

Update

I will now be entering Oz in late May.
