Ozintro

I am booked to go with Ozintro on the 9th May 2011, however I just read some really bad reviews on the hostel in Coogee! Now I am freaking out and accually don't want to go! Has anyone done this??

You only are at that place for the first few days though, right? I think I know which hostel it is (?), and if I'm right, a rating of 70+% is really not too bad. I saw that a bunch of the reviews mention cockroaches, but having lived in Coogee for 9 months, I can say that that has nothing to do with the property. Those things are EVERYWHERE, even just walking around outside at night!

Location wise, you really can't get any better than this place in my opinion, but then again, I love Coogee!

I'm there for 9 nights... So if I don't like it then i'm kinda screwed The ratings I have seen have been closer to 40%, some even lower, and the odd one higher.
I just don't want to pay all this money to get there and hate it! I really just don't know what to do...

I would assume that ozintro allows you to cancel your booking with them, probably minus some administrative fee.
*checks*
Their terms & conditions say that if you cancel more than 28 days in advance, you'll just lose your deposit. (At $300 for the deposit, that still seems very steep. If the UK is like the Netherlands, there's probably "buyer's remorse" consumer protection laws that mean you could get even that money back if you booked with them less than 7 (?) days ago.)

People who've posted on this board about having gone with ozintro are generally positive about it, although the general sentiment also seems to be that they're rather expensive, and in the end not really worth it for most people.
I don't think you'd actually have a bad experience just going on with it, though.

As for the hostel, how come you're in there for 9 days? The ozintro thing lasts 7 days, right? So you booked 2 days separately on your own? You should definitely be able to cancel that.

Yes, I arrive on the Saturday and Ozintro starts on the Monday. As I arrive early I just booked myself in there so they would pick me up from the airport and i'd meet some people beforehand.

I'm waiting on hearing back from them, I know i'll loose my deposit (£200) but i'd rather loose that than have a terrible week and want to leave... This has put a total damp my trip I was so excited

Claire, is it the hostel I mention above or a different one? Those ratings are really probably rather accurate, as they are all based on travellers who have actually stayed at the property. On some other sites the ratings and reviews can be left by anyone, and those often see people leaving ratings/reviews who haven't even stayed there (competitors, people that just have a beef etc.). Higher than 70% is really not that bad, and whilst you can find hostels with higher ratings in the city centre, they tend to be quite a bit more expensive too. Losing 200 pounds just doesn't seem worth it to me!

Yeah, it's that hostel.
I'm going to have a think about it for a few days. I'v been planing Austraila for years in my head, and Ozintro was always what I wanted to do. I'm not going to just give it up, but I can't help but be put off my some of the things I have read.
