NYE in Sydney is extremely popular. Most popular hostels are booked solid half a year in advance. To still find something right now, you don't really have much choice: You'll either pay outrageous fees, have to commit to staying a minimum of 7-10 days, or most likely both.
Looking (which combines the options of hostelworld and hostelbookers), searching for 7 nights starting on the 30th, there's exactly two options left (and three more if I search for 10 nights), with the 7 night hostels charging $200-$300 per night over new years (for a large dorm), and only one of the 10 night hostels going under $100.

Very expensive then? Cant you only pay for a bed?
How about is it sofa surfers? would you recommend this?
