Map Issue

Hello,

Back in the days we had the Flash map, this was on purpose. The flash map was very heavy to load, and having too many of them on a page would slow things down to a crawl. So we limited maps usage to one per post, having the others link through to the full map page.

I don't know if this reasoning still works in this day and age of the google maps implementation. If not, it should be a very easy fix to allow more than one map per post.

So what is the very easy fix?

Sorry, I should've specified that: a very easy fix for Sam/Peter/Dmitry to remove the check in the code that creates the limit of one map per post. There's nothing you can do about it at the moment.

While technically it's probably possible now, it's probably not going to happen any time soon for a few reasons. Mainly, maps do slow down the loads quite a bit. But Google has also just announced a it will start cutting back on the number of loads each site can have. As you can already set the map to show on every single blog load (by putting it in the header), also allowing it multiple times per post is just going to make that worse.

I'll double check with Peter on this though! He's the map man

But Google has also just announced a it will start cutting back on the number of loads each site can have.

Yeah, I just read about that. Ouch!
Does the way you load a static map on every accommodation page count as well? Because if so, between that and the travel maps... *shakes his head* Might have to go to a click-to-show model. :/ (On the other hand, if the static map doesn't count, then that might be a good direction to move to for the blogs as well, since things there don't need to be interactive most of the time, but just serve as illustration.)

Yeah, like Sam said, probably not the best time to be increasing the possible number of map loads

Sander, I'm pretty sure the static map loads will also count. Caching the static ones is one way around it, but that is technically also not allowed.. grrrr. Yeah, we're not very happy with Google for this change
