Travelling in South America

Hiya, has anyone got any advice as to 'must see' but NOT touristy sites that I should visit whilst i am travelling up from Buenos Aires through Rio to La Paz and Lima.

What exactly are you looking for? Nature, big cities, historic places?
Between Buenos Aires and Rio a nice stop would be at either Puerto Iguazu (Argentina) or Foz do Iguaçu (Brazil) to see the falls.
There is a very popular route between Brazil and Bolivia which is known as the death train (not because it's dangerous but because many people have died during the construction of the railway).
These are not the most popular spots but still touristy, if you really want some off the beaten track places try the small beach cities betewwen São Paulo and Rio, such as Ubatuba, Paraty, Trindade and specially Ilha Grande. You can also get to the Brazilian amazon and from there cross into Peru.

Well we want a mixture between big city/ nature and historic places if possible. Personally I am less interested in the big cities so any advice you have on secret rural places would be great.
Thanks a lot for the names you already sent, I looked them up and I am really excited.
