Hi guys, I'm planning on a RTW trip and I was hoping eastern europe would be one of the stops. What I'm worried about is how realistic I'm being in my plans/budget.
I can't help you with budget as i haven't been to those places....yet.
Regarding question 4, yes, try to avoid backtracking. I think it is possible if you do Turkey, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Albania, Serbia (via Montenegro) and Romania then onto Poland.
Are you familiar with the Balkan rail pass? I quote from Wiki:
"Balkan Flexipass
Although the slow and infrequent trains are by no means the most efficient way of traveling in the Balkans (this is by any standard of the bus), it is one of the more comfortable and scenic.

Are you American? If so, I hear the Euro is down compared to the USD - you might buy some now? Although the Euro is not used in all of these countries, it's easily converted to local currencies (Turkey uses the Turkish Lira).
