Hi guys!
My girlfriend and I are planning an open ended trip around the world as of March 2010. Were flying from London to Miami, then up the east coast, along the Canadian boarder, up through Canada to Alaska then back down the west coast to South America. Were then flying from Santiago to NZ, then on to Oz, then Island hopping from Darwin up to Asia before returning home.
We are aiming to save 15 grand between us to leave with including 4 grand for flight tickets that we have already sorted. Our house will be rented out whilst were away which will provide us with approx 400 pounds a month on top of our savings. We are also willing to do a bit of work on the way.
Does this seem like a realistic amount to survive on and does this route seem quite possible? Any responses, help, tips very very very welcome!!!!!!!!
Cheers dudes
Wow that sounds truly like the trip of a lifetime!!
Ok here goes my math / guesswork / experience of budgets all rolled into one....
15 grand is 7,500 each + 2,400 each rental income (it'll be less because of tax though...)
Let's say a year and a half .... 548 days
9900 / 548 = 18 pounds a day
That's fine in Asia (you'll live like king & queen there for that money) but not enough (I'd guess) for America / Canada & certainly not enough for Oz....
Of course, you could get jobs along the way or cut your time down in the expensive countries to spend more time in Asia..
As a rough guide, I always reckon on the following (not drinking too heavily and staying in cheap accomodation)...
Asia - 10 / day
Oz - 25 / day
America / Canada ????
Hope this help a little bit
Cheers for your responses guys!
I failed to mention that the plan is to spend a year doing the america part, then a year working when we get to Oz,with free accommodation for the most part. Then the rest doing Asia e.t.c. Going on DOA's workings out,we should just about be ok!! Any more info on places to see or best routes to take e.t.c again would be much appreciated!
I would suggest reversing the order of your trip for a few reasons. One is that the U.S. and Canada is relatively expensive, would hate to see you overspend and miss out on some of the really interesting destinations in Asia. Additionally, you might well appreciate the western atmosphere a bit more after having spent time elsewhere.
Just a thought.
I just need to know which should I prefer travelling to Alaska through a cruise ship or simply get there through plane. Money isn't really a big issue. I'm just worried that travelling in a cruise ship would bore my fiancee. Thanks
