New Years Eve in Paris...advice please!

Hi people,

Hey ilove_oz,

The only thing that I know about NYE in Paris is that's it's usually a party. There are a lot of tourists, especially Americans, who party near the Eiffel Tower (yes, you spelled it right ). So if that's what you're into, it should be a blast!

As far as places to stay, I don't really know. There is an accomodation link on this website that you could check out (bar to the left) that will most likely have some budget hotels that you might be interested in. There are reviews from travellers and everything. A room is possible to find, just book ahead; everything is likely to book up quickly for New Year's, understandably. If that doesn't help (it probably will ), you can always search hostelworld (there are hotel listings), hotels.com, trip advisor, etc. -websites like that.

Good luck.

Steph

I think there's a hotel on Paris, I think it's Sophie Germain Hotel.

Neighbourhoods that are central and still reasonable-ish to stay in, in my opinion, would be either the Quartier Latin or Marais. You can walk to Champs Elysees quite easily from these quarters. St Germain could be another option too. The area around Eiffel Tower or Champs Elysees would be quite pricey. Otherwise plenty of travellers also heads up to Montmartre where a lot of budget places can be found, but it is a little further out from the central area (still within Paris proper though).

Many apartment rentals tend to be for a full week, and while I don't have specific recommendations, I'm sure if you google for them ("paris apartment short stay" or some similar terms) there would be plenty of options. You could also consider searching for B&B although I'd imagine that'll be trickier since the owners probably are on holidays with their families and wouldn't want to be there to provide breakfast day in day out during the festive periods.

Most sights in Paris would be closed on 1 January, and some with early closing on 31 December. Otherwise, they're open as usual. At times when they're closed, you could still admire a lot of them from the outside anyway.
