New Caledonia - Any thoughts?

I'm looking at a good place to go for my honeymoon in December. Weather, and watersports are a must. I've been doing some research and New Caledonia looks like it's got everything.

unspoilt, beautiful island, friendly people although learn some french!
Went there a few years ago to noumea on a cruise ship only stopped for a day but went to the cascade waterfalls which were just lovely.
If you want to go somewhere different with no commercialism then go here.

just remembered went to isle of pines aswell which was just paradise lots of watersports and things to do but very remote look at pictures on the net out of this world

I also haven't been but was working as a travel agent in sydney for a few years, and have been to plenty of the Pacific Islands, and know loads of people who have ben, so could probably offer some help...
New Caledonia:
Positives:
Relatively easy to get to.entirely French and prides itself on the quality of the food so foodies really love it. Nice variety between the islands and definitely worth visiting more than one. World class diving, sailing etc.
Negatives:
Basically it's value for money that's the main one. You can find yourself paying Tahiti prices for things that aren't Tahiti standards. It's not exactly very tropical (if that's an important thing for you), by that I mean as an example "Isle de Pins" is an island covered in pine trees, and whilst stunning, might not be the postcard image in your head??

It ill be entirely dependant on budget and your personal taste, but if you want beautiful lodgings with good watersports but without quite the price tag then I can't reccomend the Cook Islands enough. If you can afford Tahiti (and I mean Bora Bora) then that's the one. But if you want an unspoilt adventure, giving up some of the creature comfirts to go right off the tourist trail the I cannot say enough good things about the Solomon Islands. It's not 5 star by any means in fact it rarely gets above a 3 anywhere but it truly is one of the last unspoilt paradises left!!
