Hi , I will be in KK during the late June for 5 nights...
I am checking with the hotel accommodation now and would prefer the Hostel.
I checked one hostel which i want to stay is costing USD 88 per room per night which is private room with ensuite ( Full board included) , but if I book the 6 bed mixed dorm ensuite is only cost USD 36.
The only think I concern is , is it safe for the single girls to stay in the mixed dorm?
( I know it depends on who will share the room with you...)
Safe? Yes, I'd say so, although of course things can always happen, I think the chance of it happening in a room filled with other people is a lot smaller than walking home from a bar late at night alone... a more common problem than safety is theft, and although I've never had a problem, it does occur a bit in hostels. Mind you, I don't think it would occur less in an all female dorm than a shared dorm or all male one. Likewise for things like snoring or people waking up early and turning on all the lights (so annoying!); they are all just as likely to occur in a all female dorm. I suppose the one thing that you are pretty much guaranteed will be worse in a shared dorm is the smell.... we men just smell worse than women in general

I clicked in the 'accommodation' option, left panel. Checked Kota Kinabalu and looked at hotel/dorm options. There are many to choose from that are much less expensive than your quote. Read all the reviews and perhaps choose another that is less expensive. One item I recommend for dorms is . Makes it much more difficult to steal your gear while your pack is out of your sight. Take ear plugs and anything else you might want for a better night's sleep.

The accommodation I selected to stay can not be searched in this system, it call” Borneo Tempurung Seaside Lodge” (I saw the place is quite nice but a little far away from the downtown) Anyway, just want to having few days relax there and move to downtown for 2 nights….

Eliz, when I travel around Australia and NZ I always stay in hostel dorms, but when I go to Asia I just get a private room, in either a guest house or a small hotel. The cost was similar to a dorm back home.
