Washington through California Road Trip This Summer

So were starting off nearinsh Seattle. Our first night we're going to stay with a friend in Olympia then head down the coast, hitting coos bay and seaside in oregon then in california we're going to hit the redwoods and continue on down the coast to Santa Cruz where were going to spend a couple days with my sister then we might go on down all the way to san diego stopping in LA and whatnot then turn back around and head back up the middle, hitting crater lake. I know we have some other destination points as well but they arent as big...and I cant really remember them right now

The San Juan Islands group in Puget Sound are pretty awesome as is the Columbia River Gorge (waterfalls) - 40 miles east of Portland.

In CA, Route #1 is a must drive, and the Monterey Peninsula and Sonoma Coast are quite spectacular.

Lava Beds National Monument on the Calif./Ore. border.
Great camping and cave (lava tubes) exploring.

I suggest Hearst Castle (near Cambria, CA), Pebble Beach, the Mission in Santa Barbara, Laguna Beach (for its arts festivals--especially the Sawdust Festival), Yosemite, and Mission Bay in San Diego.

Surprised to see such a short response from Cal. He must be short of time because this thread is right in his wheelhouse. I've found him to be about the most helpful poster on the web.

I'd highly recommend you take at least a portion of your trip on the coastal highway. This goes through Pebble, Carmel etc. There is a reason they film car commercials on this road.

Olympic National Park-
Rialto Beach near La Push.
Hoh Rain Forest
Chowder at 42nd St. Cafe in Seaview
Cape Disappointment State Park.

Hike around Oswald West in Oregon.
Eat at the Otis Cafe in Otis-2 miles from 101
Get ice cream and cheese at the Tillamook cheese factory in Tillamook.
Cape Lookout S.P.
Cape Blanco S.P.

Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park
Humboldt Redwoods State Park.

All of the State Parks I've mentioned have nice Camp grounds and are beautiful in their own right. I've driven your route 3 or 4 times and never get tired of that drive.

Have fun, enjoy.

My dog loved Rialto Beach and I did too! Too bad it's a little too cool to swim.
