We're vegetarians going to Spain in Oct of 2011. Barcelona, Madrid, Segovia, Toledo, Seville, Granada, Ronda, Tarifa. Any advice on eating? Thanks
Hey
I went to Spain in June, and we we're all inclusive at our hotel, and the food was pretty samey every night; Paella, pasta, fish. What kind of vegetarian are you? If you still eat fish you will be fine There is no shortage of fish there. There were a few places we went to that did offer vegetarian paella's, but as I'm not a vegetarian, I wasn't really looking out for them. There we're quite a few restaurants around that offered more English/American dishes, but I guess it depends where/what parts you go to.
Sorry I can't be more helpful!
In the bigger cities you will be fine, there are even vegetarian-specific restaurants if you look hard enough. See for Barcelona, for example. In the smaller places people will understand what you mean but be prepared for your options to be a bit limited. Going for tapas and picking the vegetable ones might be a good bet.

Spaniards do love their meat but I think you'll not have too much trouble.
It may not have the same breadth of options that you are used to though
- bocadillas, cheese being the obvious option, mind your mouth it's the crustiest bread I've ever experienced
- delicious omelettes
- the majority of bars and cafes serve rationes which are small portions of various dishes which include roast potatoes in a spicy tomato sauce, fried cheese croquettes, mushrooms...
- and as the other post mentioned, loads of fish, seafood dishes if you partake - I loved the langustines
You will also be able to find specifically vegetarian restaurants in all those cities.
Happy trails
I've been to a few cities and Spain and am also Vegetarian. I found myself sticking mainly to the tapas options, so lots of patats bravas (spicy potato), fritata, brushetta with tomatoes, croquettes and olives! On the whole I found it pretty easy, however my meals didn't vary too much.. I would definately recommend checking the menu beforehand, as you will find restaurants vary a lot in their options and also learn a few of the key vegetarian options in Spanish. But you shouldn't have too many probs!
Enjoy your travels
