I'm from Iran.
My husband and I have applied for shengen visa from Netherlnads for 18 days . ( we both had invitation from a scientific conference to be hold on 28-30 Sep in Amsterdam.)
we had a satisfactory interview at embassy and they issued the visa for both of us for 18 days.
but on 16-09-2010 when i went to take it, i realized that my husband's first name has been omitted on his visa.
and they told me to come and receive it on 23-09-2010.
unfortunately today when i asked his passport they told me they can issue it only for 7 days.
now i have 18 days schengen visa while my husband has 7 days visa from Netherlands embassy.
I am sorry, there is nothing you can do.
The reason they could give your husband only a visa for 7 days and only for the Netherlands is bc the other visa (without his first name) is in the passport too - and they cannot give him 2 Schengen visa at the same time. So they gave him a national visa to the Netherlands instead.
It sucks, but this is the way it is.
