DC to Vegas.. done college want to see the great nation..

So I'm almost done college and am planning a trip from Washington D.C. to Las Vegas the day after finals around May 10, 2011. I have lived in the USA for all of my life but feel I have seen little it has to offer (I also never really celebrated my 21st and would like a belated birthday present for myself). I am planning the trip with some of my fraternity brothers and one's parents were kind enough to provide us with a rather large RV. there will probably be 4 or 5 of us going. So my question I'd like to ask is general for the most part. What are the major attractions should I definitely plan to see? I'd like to take a scenic route for the most part but like to keep the trip between 7-9 days. Has anyone taken this trip before with some insight they could share? I'd appreciate anything that is given because I have always been interested in traveling but before I go off to law school I'd like to see more of the nation. What are the average costs for a trip like this that i should plan for if we are living in the RV, stocking it with food we can make on the RV? the beverages will probably last only one-way I have a bit of time before the trip but I'd like to start the process by getting as much information as possible. I appreciate it everyone.

Okay--from east to west:

Washington, D.C.--see the Smithsonian (Air and Space Museum), White House, Capitol Building, Train Station (really impressive--you'll see what I mean if you go there), Lincoln Monument, Washington Monument and "The Mall", Printing and Engraving Center (where they print all the money), FDR Monument, Jefferson Memorial, and just south of town--Mount Vernon and the Arlington Cemetary. Also, if you can get in, the CIA's headquarters and the Pentagon are both just across the river--ha, ha.

Nashville, Tennessee--Grand Ole Opry, Country Music Museum, Opryland, The Hermitage, and Wild Horse Saloon

Memphis, Tennessee--B.B. King's place, Sun Recording Studios, Graceland, and lots of great rib places

New Orleans, Louisiana --French Quarter and Bourbon Street --and be sure to go to K-Paul's Louisiana Kitchen for dinner (run by Paul Prudhomme)--and go to the French Market for beignets. Also visit the voodoo museum or the one graveyard near the French Quarter where all the famous voodoo queens are buried--fairly interesting

San Antonio, Texas--Riverfront and The Alamo

Austin, Texas-Sixth Street at night, and Lake Travis (restaurant on the east end--don't remember the name)

Carlsbad Caverns in southern New Mexico

Roswell, New Mexico (optional)--place where they have the Alien Museum

Santa Fe, New Mexico--go to the downtown area near the Governor's Palace

Sedona, Arizona--visit the red rock canyons

Grand Canyon (Arizona)--no comment needed

Hoover/Boulder Dam that creates Lake Mead

Into Las Vegas itself.

This route can be done in the 7-9 day period you desire.

Enjoy
