Motorbike Europe trip summer 2011

Hi
To mark the final full year of being in my 40s I am planning to set off for a two-week motorbike trip to a few places in Europe next summer.
Unfortunately I can't go for any longer than two weeks due to family commitments but I would love to meet up with anyone who will also be biking/travelling in that time.
I have no definite plans or dates yet, but it will more than likely be end July-beginning August. I particularly want to visit Sedlec Ossary in Czechoslovakia but other than that just want to enjoy the journey.
Please get in touch if you may be interested!

Hi Kate!

That sounds like fun!!! If you go to my blog you will see that I am planning USA tour very soon...as a first time traveller I thought I would venture closer to home. If I find I love the new way of life I was thinking Europe would be next and definitely in the summer....so who knows?? I have a bike license too, but haven't ridden much or for a while now....sounds exciting!!!

Hi ManicGypsy ... thanks for the reply! I only got a bike again last March, after more than 20 years without one. I guess I got one for nostalgic reasons but to be honest it's not like it was all those years ago when I was a biker in my 20s. I ache a lot more these days for a start!
I have no real plans yet, but definitely want to enjoy some freedom even if it is only for a couple of weeks. I last tried to do this in about 1990, on a crap BMW R80 (ex police bike) which was too big for me really. It seized up and broke down when I had only been out of the UK for two weeks and I had no alternative but to return home. I now have a Yamaha Virago 535 which still scares me but it's really comfortable to ride.
Where abouts in the USA are you?
Kate

Still going?

Absolutely!

I plan on going this year, it all went pear shaped last year haha.
No real plans yet but want to do east rather than France / Germany.
Keep me posted on when you will be going if i'm free, i'd like to join ya or meet up at some point.
Passed my test only a cpl. years back, never had a bike before so i'll be the slow **** who catches ya up every evening.
Steve.

Starting to firm up plans ... think I'll be crossing at Dover - Dunkirk, on Fri 5 Aug at some point in the morning. Then taking the coastal road to Bruges, on to Brussels, Ghent, Maastricht, Aachen, and at some point Prague. Then to the Sedlec Ossary! Would love to get to Italy too but I have to be back in the UK by Sat Aug 13.
I only got back on a bike a year ago, after not having one for about 20 years so I'm still pretty new to it too.
Kate

You only going for 8 days?
You will have to do some miles each day to do Prague and Romania.
Driven to Poland non stop in 20 hrs but its a killer. (But thats from Devon)
Over 2 days, they would be long 12 hr. days, that would do Prague. Not sure how long to Sediec Ossary. So Italy might be pushing it.
Keep me posted. sent you PM.

What's a PM? I assume personal message but not sure where I find it!
Slight change to plans - took the bike in for a service and MoT last week, budgeting for about £200/£250: it needs a new exhaust and new tyres, so now looking at £800. Still have enough money to travel as planned though and I'm now more determined than ever to do some exporing!
You're right - 8 days won't be enough, so I am rethinking. Still plan to go to Dunkirk, then I have no idea. I don't want to do too much as I'd like to enjoy some cultural time too.

I'm working for a bloke with a Polish Mrs. thats why i've been to Poland before. He's says if i wanna use a van i can. He has a few Polish working for him so might be able to grab a lift with them to the east and go on from there and ride back.
Worth a thought?
No plans on where i want to go, church of bones is good, prague,Yep. Black Sea,down and back, maybe?
