Hi

hi katie,
i just turned 30 on sat and im planning to go feburary 2011 . if i dont go next year then i wont get a 1 year holiday / working visa as i will be too old :-(
i have my own 3 bedroom house so i will find it strange leaving home comforts to haha
i will travel the east coast then later i will head over to the west coast , sister and family will be their june time..perhaps
will you be trying to find work over their?
im a confidient lad but feel that i will be way out of my comfort zone , the same as you keep considering backing out!!

i think i need advise about travelling alone which would be a great help to and should i be single?

I have a hungarian girlfriend whom i have been seeing for 6 months , she cant get a visa as she holds a hungerian passport she wants to go to , but unfortunatly cant...

advise from any travellers and kate how can i contact you ? just through this site?

Hey Katie

Im travelling to Sydney at the beginning of Jan 2011 also on my own. Ive booked into a hostel for the first week and im just going to see what happens after that. Im still nervous but the trick i use is to not over think things!! Im also on a one way ticket and have my WHV im just going to go for it. As you said if it doesnt work you can just book a flight home.

I also want to travel up the east coast-- however the rain season starts in Feb around Queenlands so it might change my plans a bit.

Have you booked any flights yet?? Or are you still deciding whether or not to go?

Anyway your not alone-- ive found this site very useful there are alot of solo travellers out there with lots of good advise.

Joanne

Hi all,

I too am heading out to Australia on my own. I booked my flights on Sunday and will be arriving in Sydney on 3rd February. Very excited!

I'm spending as much time as poss researching all the places I want to see and the best ways to get around at the mo so would be happy to swap ideas. I'm going to be on a 12 month work visa (fingers crossed it gets approved!) x

Hello all,

I am heading out on the 30th december 2010, which means NY on a plane, didn't plan that too well haha! I'm planning on working in Sydney for the first few months as I'm transferring my job over from home. After I plan to travel up the east coast. Really want to do this by buying a car with a few others and driving up the whole coast over a few months. The idea is to leave Sydney as it goes to winter and head up north as it gets drier!

The lonely planet guide to the east coast seems to be a really good book and gives you routes as well dependent on time constraints.

Good luck all.

Hi all, I did the same thing 9 years ago when I was 24. Staying in hostels is a great way to meet people and the best phrase to learn when you see anyone, 'hi, where are you from', instant conversation and potential travelling buddy or friend for life. I was pretty scared when I left but within 24 hours of landing in Sydney I was out on the town with people from all around the world most of who I travelled with and am still friends with now. In short it's understandable being nervous but get out there and enjoy it!

Hey Katie
I'm also 25 going alone for my first time, pretty much the same as you. I'm landing in Sydney on Jan. 1!! I've got a hostel booked for the first 2 weeks then I'm not sure what I'll be doing. Also was thinking of heading up the east coast. If you want to get together and maybe travel together that could be good
