Madrid August

Hello All.
I am planning a trip to Madrid for one (maybe a few people) to madrid in August. I am not going for tourism or to shop and dine... but need to be there for about a week for as little money as posible. I was there when IWas a little kid but haven{t been back.

Hostels up in the centre of the city are around €25 a night. Most don't include breakfast and none of the ones I've stayed at were very exciting. However - I was walking, eating, drinking etc. and all I needed was a bed. They did me just fine. There are some excellent cheap restaurants all over the city - offering very good value for a capital city.
Public transport in Madrid is excellent and very cheap too - as long as you steer clear of the metered cabs.
Cheap flights to Madrid.... From where?

Uh.. from New York or Chicago.. I move around alot so could fly from nearly anywhere in the US..

25 Euros???????? Oh my!. that's so much more than I though. my travels in the last decade have been in South America.. pay about 4 Euros here a night. (at a really decent place with breakfast). *sigh. wow. Like they say...Europe is expensive.

but oh well. is what it is.

thanks.

I figure the cheapest way to do this journey is to change aircraft/airline en-route.
National carriers will sting you a lot more for a direct flight from the USA to Spain. You can save around $500 by changing in the UK or the European Mainland - and getting a budget flight onwards to Madrid, rather than a non-stop flight from anywhere in the USA.

okay, good advice Flying Bob. So Could you recommend how or with who I would go about doing that?

I like a travelocity to london then hop to madrid seperately?

thanks for the help.
