Hi All,
what time of year do you plan to be there?
If you are planning to stay mostly in the north, you should definitely consider going to Rajasthan, it has some of the most exotic places to visit, including forts, palaces, desserts and temples. Lots of palaces of the ancient times are five star hotles, and if your budget permits, staying in one of them is highly recommended. Also it is neighboring Aagra and should be easily accessible by all means of transportation.

It will be around February sometime for a few weeks in which i'll be there, and what sort of prices are the five star hotels and on the over scale what prices are hostels/2-3 star hotels?

Ok then, February is a great time to be in India. You have to do some research yourself and decide what you want from the trip. As Drjayjani said Rajasthan is a great choice and its packed with history and exotics, it also makes a easy loop to return to be able to fit in Agra in your allowed time. If you plan carefully you could also fit in a trip down to Goa for a very different experience from the north.
5 star in Rajasthan havalis (traditional mansions) could run anything from $100 to $500 a night. Even for $100 you get amazing accommodations and service and its well worth budgeting at least one night to experience it.
ok thanks ill be sure to keep that in mind. As in time to visit Goa do you think in 3 weeks i would have time to see Goa properly and then head north? if so any idea of costs of travel and would it be easier to start more southern?
sorry about all the questions :/
Thanks
I was in India last December for 3 weeks. I did a round trip Delhi - Agra - Jaipur - Pushkar - Todagargh - Udaipur - Jodhpur - Jaisalmer - Bikaner - Mandawa - Delhi in 2 weeks with a driver. Then chilled out in Rishikesh for a couple of days and went back home. It was a fantastic trip. Rajasthan has so much to offer. Rishikesh is a beautifull place to do yoga and relax.
Good luck and have fun!
India truly is a great nation. Its beauty surpasses the power of poetry, its grandeur is beyond the confines of any frame . After Taj Mahal you can visit
- Rajasthan: The land of forts and kings
- Kerala: God’s own country
- Goa: The land of sun, sand and surf
- Khajuraho: The city of exotic temples
- New Delhi: The capital of India
