Has anyone ever used a dentist in Cambodia or Vietnam?

Hey. Im currently in Kampot in Cambodia and then heading to Phnom Penh for a few days before crossing into Vietnam. Ive had really bad tooth ache for about 6 days now and it seems to be getting worse. I have been to the pharmacy although they dont really understand what im trying to say and i’ve been on lots of pain killers most days as its so painful. I know i really need to see a dentist but im not sure how safe it is to go to one here? Has anyone ever been to the dentist in this area? I only plan to be in Cambodia for another few days so im thinking possibly the bigger cities in Vietnam?

I'd contact your travel insurance, and have them refer you to a dentist; they should have the details of some trusted dentists.

Phnom Penh has excellent dental services, try the International Dental Clinic.
Many Cambodian dentists are trained overseas.

If you feel strong pain for many consecutive days, then you have most likely developed cavity that may require root canal treatment. They can drill it down and remove the nerve and give you temporary filling. When you return home, you can then get a proper treatment (permanent filling, crown).
Nothing bad will happen if you don't go to the dentist now (if pain stops), however the pain can continue to be severe.
Such treatment should not cost you more than GBP100.

As mentioned above, best is to get advice from your insurance company to make sure you go to a designated medical center.

Yes you were right. I went to the dentist today in Phnom Penh and had to have a filling done. It was a large one though and he said i might need root canal and crown but im travelling asia until feb and then going to NZ and so i hope it lasts until i get to NZ and that i have no more pain. Looking at stuff online root canal sounds like it costs a lot and takes a long time.

Never had any dental problems before so its unfortunate that i do when i'm travelling..

Anyway thanks for advice

If they had drilled your tooth, make sure you don't bite, chew too much on that side to prevent the tooth from cracking, breaking apart. Otherwise it will take more time and more money to rebuild it at home.

Enjoy your travels!
