Hi im James and i was just looking for any advice on planning a 12 month RTW trip.
I understand you plan on flying over the best and most scenic part of the USA - the West Coast?
Personally, I'd be knackered by the time I was in Peru! (I can't comment on the North America part of your trip since I don't really know it too well) If you follow this route, you'll have virtually no time to chill out or rest- it'll be go, go, go every day, all day. 10 weeks for Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia and Peru is madness. Unless you spend almost every night in a bus and only visit a few spots (which I think would be a shame on such an interesting continent), and even then I'm not sure you could do it. 6 weeks on the east coast of Australia is just about doable, but I'd still not recommend it. Like I said, you'll end up rushing too much without actually enjoying it. Personally, I spent 4 weeks in New Zealand, and it was just about enough, but I still missed out on things I wanted to see.
I'd recommend seriously re-concidering your route. Maybe just pick 2 of the 3 continents? Or cut down on what you want to see- In South America, you could travel from Santiago to Lima, for example, in ten weeks, but Brazil and Argentina are huge, and not really feasible. Distances are massive and transportation slow. Maybe cut down a few countries in South East Asia as well, and only concentrate on the south island of NZ (since you're flying to CHC) rather than rushing through it all.
Still, my recommendation would be to either leave out one continent entirely, or to extend your time to a minimum of 9-10 months.

We plan to start in SE Asia and spend 10 weeks touring through thailand, Laos, Vietnamm, Cambodia and finishing in Singapore.
This would mean rushing about too. If I was going to Thailand, Laos and Vietnam I would plan on having around 10-12 weeks alone for these three countries.
Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and overland from Bangkok to Singapore will thus take a lot more time than just 10 weeks. Make it 12 weeks at least, more would be better.
i realise this maybe a bit rushed and might have to make a few ammendments to make it a bit more relaxing lol. thanks for your replys.
The trip i planned with The flight centre is a World Exployer package which allows me internal flights in each continent at the cost of only the tax. This will allow me to use internal flights in south america so might make that a little less conjested, also i might cut back 4 weeks from north america and use that time in South america, this is probably the area i am looking forward to most and really dont want it to be spoilt by rushing around. I might also cut my asia part down to just Thailand Laos and Vietnamm. what do you think?
This is my first time travelling and really want to see the whole world (im sure you all understand!) i just want to make it the best trip possible on my budget.
On my budget do you think it is reasonable?

But three years of pretty full-on travelling later, and I've still only seen a scrap of the world- there's always more! Trust me, cut down on a few things and you'll enjoy it more! There's nothing more annoying than missing out on something fantastic that you only just found out about as you arrived to your destination and not being able to do it because your schedule is too full!
Also, factor in that you might get sick at some stage- even a basic flu can cut a week of your schedule. I almost missed my flight in Peru during the 2006 earthquake because I was rushing around so much, and left it till last minute to get to Lima! There are so many things you cannot control. I'd still recommend leaving out Brazil and Argentina. There are tons of things to see in Chile/Bolivia/Peru.

I would recommend that you still go overland from Bangkok to Singapore.
There is one part of the world that is mostly absent from your initiary: the countries that are pre-dominantly muslim. In your original initiary the only muslim country was Malaysia. If you now focus on just Thailand Laos and Vietnam you'll miss out on Malaysia too. Quite a shame if you ask me.
Could you really do it on that budget though?

Since starting this link i have, booked my trip up and leave on 29th of december.
I start in Thailand where i will see the new year in at the Full moon party, then my adventure starts with a 10 week tour of Thailand, Laos, Vietnamm and Singapore. From there i fly to Cairns and am planing on renting a camper van and driving down the east cost in 6 weeks to Melbourne where i catch a flight to New Zealand to spend 4 weeks. From here i fly to South America where i have 12 weeks - 10 days in Chile then fly to Buenos Aries and start a trip overland to Peru. From Peru i fly to Miami and have 3 months in which im going to get trains and drive through the southern states to L.A then up to Seattle where i intend on crossing the border into Canada to spend a further 2 months . The Trip ended up costing £2500, and have managed to save up around £11,000 - £12,000 spending money i know this is a tight budget but intend on working if needed and have a credit card to fall back on which i don't mind getting into a little bit of debt with.
Has anyone done a similar trip to advise on if this budget is realistic?
