knick knacks and gadgets

So my gran pulled out this old gadget, just a simple metal rod that hooks up to a wall socket, used to heat up a cup of water
anyways, i was wondering
any of you guys have any useful albeit small and carryable gadgets you travel with?

I expect you're gonna see this moved to travelgear. I used to carry the water heater too. You can still buy them.

Hey there!

Here two recommendations I use:

1.- A tricked-out magnalite. I switch out the regular bulb with a LED light which is brighter and uses less energy
2.- A multipurpose utility tool like a LEATHERMAN. Because of its compactness it comes in very handy with various day to day activities

-snip-

I hope this information helps

Good Luck!

Hello

While I find the idea of travel gadgets very interesting, I have yet to find many compelling.

I have found these items helpful while traveling throughout the world, including a year in very primitive conditions:

A headlamp (LED of course )
Very small voltage converter
Cell Phone (phone calls, texts, alarm clock, etc.)
Nintendo DS (takes the place of books, etc.)
Very small, 5", DVD player
Scissors, very helpful and usually not a problem with security.
10 feet / 3 meters of small cord (cloths line, etc.)
Tiny GPS (you never know)
Silk sleep sack/sleeping bag sheet.
pen and pencil
blank bound book
3"x5" note cards
language phrase book(s)

Any comments?

Thanks

We've found our travel washing line very useful over the months for washing smalls in hotel rooms with nowhere to dry outside.

It's 2 pieces of elastic string twisted together so you don't need pegs and has 2 suckers at the end for sticking to the bathroom tiles.
