Who here has emigrated to Australia from Britian?

Are you glad you moved, ever think about comnig back?

I have - because my wife is Australian! We got married in the UK (which is where we met) and lived there for about 2 years, and we're just coming up to the 2 year mark for living in Australia.

Recently we spent quite a few months deciding which country we wanted to settle in long-term, as obviously for us it's made difficult with families & familiarities in both countries. In the end we decided that we'll settle in the UK, but not just yet!

So yes, I have thought about going back and will be heading back at some point in the future! It's been good living here, and there are things I will definitely miss but also other things I will definitely not miss! Just like life in the UK really.

so mojorob, you dont miss the UK's cool wet climate?

I do actually miss the cooler climate of the UK, although not the winter. Unfortunately the season I don't like in Australia is the summer, so when the winter is happening in the UK summer is happening here!

I'm definitely not a hot weather person and really didn't like last summer in Melbourne where we had the hottest day on record for Melbourne, and accompanying bushfires. And living further north would be worse for me with the humidity. Saying that, the thing about winter in the UK I don't like is the ice - and my wife isn't keen on it getting dark so early. However I'd rather put up with the ice for a softer summer, than a nicer winter (which to me feels like autumn) but a potentially very hot summer.

I came backpacking to Oz 11 years ago, after uni. And stayed, and stayed and I'm still here.
I got a job soon after arriving and they sponsored me, then married an Aussie etc etc.

I love Oz, don't miss the UK at all. I do miss friends/family, but try to get back every 1.5/2 years.
Living by the beach is like being on holiday all the time! And you don't get months of Spring/autumn drizzly weather.

My sister emigrated to Oz (Sydney) back in 1971.
I flew out December 20th 1974 for a 3 weeks visit (it was bloody freezing at Heathrow airport) and 26 hours later I was drinking an icy-cold lager in a Bondi beach beer-garden watching Aussie girls in bikinis walking in and out of the pub and it was about 85 degrees.
It took me a nanosecond to decide that this was the lifestyle for me (Aberdeen, Scotland - never heard of it)
Worked my arse off for an year back in the UK and got me a Work Visa and returned to stay with my sister January 1976 and have been in Oz ever since.
Married an Aussie girl, moved over here to Perth where her family is, became a citizen and have been in the West for 30 years now.
All my immediate family eventually came to Perth (bugga, can't even escape them here), have no ties to the old country and no interest in ever going back.
Summer a few weeks away, five minute walk to the Indian Ocean, closest vineyard/winery is a 5 minute drive from my office and I can shop all year round in bare feet.
Breakfast in Perth and lunch in Bali suits me perfectly.
