Perth or Melbourne help

Hi there I am currently in Darwin and I am looking for work. Work in Darwin is very hard to find so I have decided to fly to either Perth or Melbourne to find employment. Where do you think would be the best place to find jobs and to enjoy the city. Which do you think is nicer- Perth or Melbourne??

Melbourne is a much bigger city so I would imagine that it would be easier to find work there than in Perth. I liked Perth but it's pretty sleepy compared to Melbourne which is a vibrant city with lots going on. Perth has warmer winters though - Melbourne is aready getting quite cold.

Heh, I was thinking about heading to Darwin or Perth for work. Is Darwin really that hard right now? Probably cause it is dry season there. Leaning towards Perth myself.

Peak season in Darwin is June/July/August. Dry season is peak season.

Tmmpl, I agree with Bex76. I live in Melbourne, I've been to Perth aka the Paris of the west, and in spite of people portraying Perth as a backwater with nothing to recommend it (I've heard them), I liked Perth - it is rather small compared to Melbourne and the Swan River is very pretty.

However, there is a difference in going somewhere for a "holiday" and going there to work. You would find more opportunites in Melbourne because it is so much bigger. (Second largest city in Australia). We also have great cafe culture - tables and chairs/seating outside the cafes/restaurants/bistros ..very popular even in winter. Large outdoor gas heaters provide warmth so you don't freeze. Great shopping and sports capital of Australia!
