Thailand

My boyfriend and I just arrived in Thailand. We are staying at a hotel close to the airport for tonight but are planning on heading out of Bangkok tomorrow. I'm feeling pretty out of place! Where would you guys reccomend to head first? Anyone else in Thailand wanting to hang out? Let us know! Thanks!

Hi!

Well, i would guess that you are planning to go down to the beach and spend some time there? I would get a bus/boat combo from Khao San road and head to Chumpon - Ko Tao. From Ko Tao you can go to Ko Phan Yan and then Ko Samui and then head back to the mainland again - Surat Thani, then you can go to Krabi if you like, I didnt find it all that great to be honest, the beach is pretty dirty and not as nice as others in Thailand and if you are not here for long im not sure if its worth a stop then you can herad to Puhket and go to Ko Phi Phi. However, if you are iin Krabi you can get to Ko Phi Phi from there. This is the kind of trip people normally do as its the easiest way!

Hope this helps and hope you have an awesome time!
Im so jealous, wish i was still there!

If - understandably - you are not happy about Bkk today - there may well be trouble - I would suggest that you don't even bother going into Bkk town.

Go straight from the airport - Take a bus (160 baht approx) or taxi (1300baht approx) to Pattaya[u] and get a nice hotel (e.g.Areca Lodge - 1300 baht double rm) and from there you can plan a trip to Koh Samet, Koh Chang or any of the attractions along the Eastern Seaboard.
I should point out that it is the start of the wet season and Koh Chang might get a bit wet - check in advance.

To do this you don't need to go into Bkk you just head South/East along the coast. - Pattaya takes about 1.5 to 2 hours.

If you don't like the sound of Pattaya, you could try Bang Saen or Sri Racha - both are smallish Thai towns on te way to Pattaya- not a lot to do but they have a few good hotels. Pattaya is by far the easiest to get to as there is a lot of traffic that way.

if you need any more info PM me.

hi, myself and my girlfriend arrived in bangkok last week and made our way down the eastern gulf coast to Koh Samet. Travelling was a bit chaotic at times but still a great experience and Koh Samet is a nice island with loads of accommodation and so cheap if you ask around and haggle a bit. We stayed 5 nights there and are now making our way back to bangkok to catch the overnight train to Chiang Mai on sunday evening. We are not planning too far ahead with our 3 week trip but you are welcome to join us if you are still near bangkok.

I would seriously think twice about going to Bkk at present. It is always possible that the violence may not just spread through the capital but also erupt at other locations around the country.

Visitors to BK really need to steer clear of the protest areas. This was the scene .

We aren't in Bangkok anymore, left last night on a night bus. I'm glad we did, I didn't much enjoy Bangkok anyways, it is way too busy there (and it's dead compared to what it's usually like) We are in Railay now and really enjoying it. We will stay here a few days then head to Koh Tao, Phangan and Samui. After that we are heading to Indonesia I think. Thanks for the link vegasmike. It's so sad that this is going on for so long. I can definitely see the way it is affecting the country.

Just Go to Phuket it's fun there
