Sihanoukville to Trat

Hi there,

Sylvia,
I am going to guess you meant 'plane'. There is no airplane option from S'ville back to Tland. You have 2 choices: boat from S'ville to Koh Kong, minivan from the border to Trat. Or bus to the border, minivan from border to Trat. covers my day from S'ville to Pattaya via bus, minivan. I suggest you go with the land option. You leave around 7:30am from the bus station in S'ville. It was basically a parking lot in '08. When you get into S'ville, chat with different bus companies about getting to Koh Kong. There were at least 3 companies in '08. Look at their bus if possible, price and departure time. You will get to Trat much earlier via road than by taking the boat. The boat does not leave S'ville until noon. With the bridges now finished, you will be in Koh Kong before the boat leaves. Once in Trat, take the first bus to BKK.

It's easy to get to BKK/Trat by bus from Sihanoukville.
You have 2 options. The night bus goes via Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Poipet and takes about 15 hours. Virak Buntham are the company that run this and it's the only company that offer a proper sleeper bus and costs no more than $25.

You can also get a day bus that goes via Koh Kong. Takes about 12 hours and costs a dollar or 2 less. The boat to Koh Kong is not running at the moment so is not an option.

You can get bus tickets in Sihanoukville that will take you to Trat, Koh Chang, Pattaya, Koh Sammet and Bangkok.

If your wanting to travel from Sihanoukville back to Bangkok direct then as Daveh has suggested, is the way to go. This sleeper bus sounds like a recent addition to transport options which I don't think operated in 2009 when I was there. I can only recommend, if you can set aside 2-3 nights, to visit Koh Chang before heading back to Bangkok. I did this in 2008 and 2009 because I love the island experience.
