oh where to start - first do not compare beaches or beach resorts because the UK cannot compete - from the wide open spaces and beautiful weather - we have so many things to see and so many places to explore it is up to you to decide from beach walks to rainforest walks - the variety of different animals in the wild - where you can drive for hours on a straight road no traffic - every state is different and varied - depending on when you decide to visit we too have winter sports - actually in Australia on any weekend as long as someone has a ball (tennis ball to soccer ball) you can enjoy an amazing range of sports you would be surprised how many people will join in - we have art gallaries, museums and loads of culture from back packing cafes to High Tea restuarants so not sure what you are looking for because Australia is nothing like to UK you have to experience it yourself just like visiting Canada you have to see to believe it and enjoy it - remember any holiday is what you make of it

I find Australia is a good place to visit, preferably an extended trip - but living here can get quite boring (I'm planning moving on at the moment!).
So for a holiday, either Australia or Canada would be good - though Australia is a long way to go, which is why an extended trip is best whereas with Canada it's easier for you to make return visits, so shorter stays can work well there.

I have been to Canada and Australia and they are the most amazing countries i have seen. I always wanted to go Canada but wasnt so keen on Australia like yourself, but went and thought it was brilliant i had a amazing time and will definitely go back when i get a chance.
i didn't really visit the beaches, tho wish i had, but there is plenty of culture, museums and that to keep you busy.
You have friends over there that will make the experience sooo much better. You get to see a gorgeous country and your friends! Win!
The flight is long but so worth it.

You are joking - the Australian landscape is so diverse - tropical rainforests, desert, sand dunes, the outback, quaint country towns, unbelievable lush tropical plants, amazing native wildlife - koalas, kangaroos, wombats and of the course - the bunyip, plus miles and miles of nothingness just you, the land and God's sky. You my friend sound like Gaston Lachaille from Gigi.
Did you know that there is only one place in the world where two world heritage listed places meet? The Daintree and the Reef. And you can see both when you're jungle surfing up at Cape Trib.

Lucky you - the Central Coast is lovely, especially Avoca Beach and Terrigal. And that's saying something, coming from a Meburnian.

Um, excuse me, but no it's not. The beaches in England are nothing compared to Australia's beaches - we have thousands of miles of the most beautiful beaches anywhere.
OP - ever sat in the middle of the desert under an inky black sky with stars so bright and listened to the lone sound of a didgeredoo? Or heard the desert wind blowing softly while you look up at a million stars - no pollution, no smog, the cares of modern everyday living taking a back seat? Ever walked through one of the oldest rainforests on earth and listened to the sounds of the birds and animals? Ever swam with dolphins or seen brilliant soft corals in a blue, blue sea? Ever stood and marvelled at the magnificence of a huge monolith in the middle of nowhere? Ever gone down an opal mine or stayed in underground motels and visited underground houses and churches?
Ever seen big salties or patted a wallaby or held a koala (tourists love that kinda stuff), ever cuddled a wombat? Ever entered Aboriginal land where you need a permit to set foot in the place? Ever seen Aboriginal people painting on bark and other traditional crafts? Ever seen rock art over 40,000 years old? Ever done winery tours or climbed a bridge? Do you realise there are only three bridges in the world that you can actualy climb and two of them are in Australia - Sydney and Brissie. The other is in Auckland but once you've climbed the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the others pale in comparison. (I've climbed it so can speak with authority!) I've seen (and done) all the above and have been to all the states and territories and can honestly each one is different to the other.

You can also do winter sports, as it snows in the mountains in Australia. If it doesn't, the ski resorts ship snow in too.
I'm loving Australia at the moment. Well worth it.
