Don't worry about being a solo woman traveller in Ethiopia, I did it also alone in 2008, I had no problems.
I can suggest you to visit the northern part of the country if you are interested in exploring historical sights (Gondar, Lalibela) and the amazing Simien Mountains.
I you prefer the culture and tribes then the Omo Valley in the South is a perfect idea.
In matter of costs 20 USD/day should be enough if you travel by public transport, eat in local restaurants and sleep in budget hotels.
