Shanghai & Nanjing

i will be travelling with colleagues to China for one week in July. We will spend 3 days in Shanghai. I am wondering if anyone can advise on good options for some additional travel in the region? i have been to Guzhou / Hangzhou but that is still a possibility. Any comments regarding a trip over to Nanjing or even yellow mountain?

Nanjing may be a good choice, where you can see Dr Sun Yat-Sen's Mausoleum together with an ancient emperor's mausoleum as well as his relic city walls. Nanjing is about 3 hours' train from Shanghai. There are also a few nice historical little towns nearby Shanghai, namely Zhouzhuang, Tongli, etc. Yellow mountain is a bit far, better if you can catch an overnight train. Allow 2 days in the mountain.

YELLO MOUNTAIN that is in Huangshan, south of Anhui.

I was in Nanjing and Shanghai last month. Yes Nanjing is a good city to visit...
places near Shanghai: Yangzhou and Suzhou... or You should go to Ningbo, in Zhejiang.

Zhouzhuang is a cute town about 19 miles from Shanghai with many traditional buildings and meandering canals. A bit touristy but still worth the visit if you want to be out of the big city for a few hours.

Nanjing is also well worth a couple of days. I went for 3 days in 2009 but 2 days is doable if you are short on time. The evening around the Qinhuai River is quite lively and there are boat rides you could take that offer a relaxing ride. There are a lot of street vendors selling food and souvenirs, etc. Also, the price of things are cheaper than in Shanghai. Nanjing is also a cleaner city with large tree-lined boulevards. The Sun Yat-sen mausoleum is cool to see and you can also visit Soong Mei-Ling's house on the mountain.
