Iquitos to Ecuador, possible?

My boyfriend and I are heading to South America in August and were wondering if it's possible to go from iquitos through to Ecuador, i've looked it up on the net but have only been able to find Ecuador to Iquitos routes...

If there are routes one way, you can be pretty sure they exist in the opposite direction as well.

However, I'm surprised that you found any: the lowland border region between Peru and Ecuador is generally considered not to be very safe, both because of the US war on drugs, border disputes and occasional guerilla. Tour organisations usually know what they're doing, but in any case I wouldn't go up there by myself.

Mind you, this is only true for the lowlands. The Andean and coastal parts of the border region are safe.

travel upstream the rio napo from iquitos to coca, ecuador is possible.

Thelma... that's where would we like to go! Do you know how long it would take?

it takes about one week, maybe more being that you have to wait for boats here and there. i will be doing some long river travel soon and that is part of the journey, so i will let you know the details later.
