Oz Experience / Greyhound or DIY???

Guys, how did you do the East Coast & would you do it differently?
Please explain why!

Greyhound for me - I don't drive, and wanted flexibility but not enforced fun . It worked out well.

Twice I have driven around both islands. Having a car lets me go where I want, when I want and not be stuck to timetables and routes. I also pick up a B&B for the night without any problems and no messing about with luggage, which is in my boot. I stopped in at many places along the way and it helps me get around towns, saving lots of walking. I think Christchurch was the only place I used a meter.

If you are just doing the east coast go greyhound all the way. it's cheap and you will meet heaps of people travelling in the same direction as you. I wouldn't even think about driving.

I went in the middle of the winter and there were at least 20 travellers on most buses, you'll get to know so many people. One day I got to Rockhampton, met my roommates walked around town with them and we all decided we need to leave rockhampton immediately. so we hopped on the bus at midnight and I knew 6 people on the bus that I had met earlier in the trip!

Every bus stop in every town is pretty much close to the action of that town. Plus there are about two buses a day in between each town.

Driving at night there is crazy because of the complete lack of light and kangaroo by the roads, also the road trains are pretty scary when you are in total darkness.

plus if you catch the over-night bus you can sleep and save on accomodation.

also, you will without a doubt meet someone with a car and you will go on little side trips. it's guaranteed.

well, I was with a group of friends , small group though, and we drove in a van. it was great. we had a chance to hang out in the different places that we all wanted to go and we took turns in driving. its great to have your own ride as it makes everything flexible. you control the places you want to go and the times to do so.

This doesn't really answer your question, but however you do the East Coast its hard not to
a/ meet people
b/ and have fun

If you're unsure and a little worried do Oz Experience. If not then go Greyhound. If you want to spend a long time looking at nothing then drive...
