hi,
Not an awful lot of time - twelve days, but I think you'll have enough breathing space while in Poland - to get across to Prague for 48-60 hours or so. It's a must for the Eastern Europe fan.
The LGBT request I can't help you with - sorry.
I was in the Mazurian lake district, came from Kaunus Lithuania. Theres only a bus you can get, leaves Vilnius at around9pm, stops in Olsztyn at 3:30AM. You can use Olsztyn as good base for visiting the lakes. Its also a nice small town.
Reszel is a really nice place too, about an hour drive from Olsztyn, Tuetonic castle and a small village/town center.
hi!
coldwarspy, thanks for advice about the bus. do you have an idea of a cottage/cabin by the lake that we can stay in for a few days? and i heard that sept is off season for the lakes - what do you think?
flyingbob, definitely making time to spend at least 2 days in prague. any advice on location and accommodation?
thanks much again!
I've been to Prague quite a few times, for both work and play - and always found a room on arrival.
However, if that's not your thing - then a good website for rooms of all shapes, sizes and prices is..
It's more of a tourist info website, covering everything from concerts to restaurants - and tours to places to see.
thanks much!
one last question, anyone knows how to get from vilnius to the hill of crosses in siauliai? we only put aside 2 days for lithuania, but feel that maybe this is something not to be missed?
any thoughts appreciated
hi!
If you r in Lithuania - then Kaunus is must!
Vilnus is nice I like it, but Kaunus is more authentic, it's real Lithuania . If you r there - dont miss bell-music and museum of artist and a composer Churlenis. The city is beautiful, there are plenty of things to do, but u can make a daily trip from Vilnus.
Another point of interest is Trakai Castle - also possible daily trip from Vilnus. Between Trakai and Kaunas I would choose Kaunas, with no doubt.
When in Lithuania, drink their light beer and eat zeppelins! They product good black bread and interesting cheeses as well.
I would stay in Lithuania at least 3 days, 1 day for Vilnus, 1 day for Kaunas, the last/first day probably for Trakai or completing other places, it also can be 1/2 of day of your arriving (if morning) or leaving (if evening)
Torun, Wroclaw and Olomouc: all awesome towns. 2 days torun, 2 days warsaw, 3 days krakow, 2 days olomouc or Wroclaw, 3 days prague. Or with 4 days in prague you could go see the weird church of bones at sedlec (one hour away)
