Yeah, Bali can be costly because it's Indonesia's main touristic spot.
Anyway, please enjoy The Gili islands. In February, it's usually much calmer than Bali.
Please stay alert for scams.

Gem...Indonesia will not be like Thailand. Indonesia will have more people trying to fool you and you must be careful while dealing with them. I think its better to visit Gili Islands than Bali because of some unstable issues happening in south east asia.

Don't worry, it's no worse or better than any other SEA country, or any country for that matter! Typical are the taxi scams charging too much. You just have to negotiate before you get in and the worse they can do is sting you for a couple of extra bucks. Don't spend too much time in Kuta if you can avoid it. Definitely go to Ubud. If you are smart you have already been researching the various ways to get to the Gillis.
I found Gili Meno to be absolutely beautiful and a great place for total relaxation. Try and spend a few days there if you can.

Enjoying Bali so far there are certainly more people trying to sell you something here and taking advantage seams the norm so far but that aside we are enjoying it.
