going to end up a solo traveller and not sure where to go...

Hey,

Since you are travelling north, keep using public transport and booking accommodation and you'll soon get all the way up north.

Check local tourist offices or internet as to what to see.

As to the West coast there is Perth and there's.....Perth.

And it's a LONG way from the West coast. So far that New Zealand may be cheaper and both NZ islands have quite a lot to see and do.

Have you popped over to Tasmania? It's only a short hop from Melbourne and you can get an airport bus into Hobart.

June in Australia is probably best for travelling up north as you'll tend to get better weather but you mention you'll be travelling up the east coast again between now and then. After June you could travel through the centre of Australia to visit Ayers Rock and the surrounding area moving from Darwin to Adelaide or if you have enough time you could travel Adelaide up to Darwin then over to Perth. Unfortunately most of this route is fairly remote and would probably be more enjoyable with a travel buddy, although you might meet people taking a tour or on the bus.

The whole east coast is littered with the drunken bodies of party going single travelers. You will have no problem meeting up with fellow travelers looking for adventure and a good time, Relax, you will be fine! You might even end up have a better time once your friend leaves!

It's not clear from your post where your friend is leaving you and when you start traveling alone. If you can plan to be up in Cairns in July, the weather is perfect and there are always backpackers with vehicles looking for passengers to share costs on trips all over the country. As a single traveler you fit in better than couples since room for one is easier to find than room for two! and with no schedule you can pick and choose where you want to go, depending on the people you meet.

Cheers guys all sounds good to me, although less inclined towards the west coast if new Zealand is cheaper as would love to go there.

I know my post is a bit vague dodger but the person I'm travelling with has literally just turned round and said they won't stay any longer than July and I have no idea when we will go our separate ways as they want to cram everything into that time whilst I'd rather take it easy work a bit and see the sights over a longer time.

Cheers tho guys!

Xx

Flights between Aussie and NZ are pretty darned cheap - NZ is most definitely in winter by that time of year though (I'm thinking July when you're left on your own), of course if snow sports etc are your thing then this would suit you just fine But if you really wanna hang about in the sun, then do stay in Aussie. Of course some parts over there will also be seeing cooler temperatures and rainy days, but if you're going north-ward or over to the west coast that won't be the case. Travelling solo is awesome though, I went to the USA on 2 trips by myself and seriously enjoyed it - the freedom of really getting to choose your own itinerary

Hey hey I'm in Sydney on my own ATM, met plenty of peeps to do stuff day to day with but no one to travel with yet... Don't really fancy doing the east coast on my own as don't wana ruin all the wonderful sights and experiences feeling lonely or anxious etc.. Anyways message me or add me on fb
