OZ OZ OZ OZ OZ !!!!

Unless this site is based in Australia and New Zealand, why do i see so many forum posts about australia.

I agree with you completely, I'm sure Australia is nice and all but to me it just seems like a hot version of the UK with nice beaches? Can't see there being much to do whilst travelling and it's expensive. Any light on what it's like compared to other popular backpacking destinations?

Are you by any chance only looking at the forum view, rather than at the ? Because Asia and Europe threads certainly outnumber those made in here.

That said, looking at the of this site, and then specifically the "Visited" column (aggregating information from people's travel maps), Australia certainly is one of the more popular destinations, right after the USA, the UK, Germany and France. (And I suspect the first two of those rank as highly as they do simply because they also are the countries from which most members hail. Would be interesting to have a column in there for number of visited divided by number of members.) Australia's popularity is almost certainly a direct effect of the popularity of Working Holiday Visas, and for being about as far as you can go from Europe while still remaining on this planet.

Yea i do see a good number of Thailand stuff too. The point im trying to make is that its nice to know if i go to that side of the world in need of feedback its there. But like if i need feedback in the Bahamas i have a small chance of getting feedback.

I think you could be positively surprised. It's certainly true there's not as many people on this forum who have in depth knowledge of more obscure countries, but there's still 2 travel helpers for the Bahamas, 47 members who claim to be from the Bahamas, over 1500 visits to the Bahamas by people (unfortunately no way to tell by how many people, but probably more than 200), etc. Certainly not all those people would be active on the site in the week after you'd post a thread about the Bahamas, but you'd still have a good chance of one or more seeing the thread and responding. And if that doesn't work, you could also use the search function to find members from, blogging about, or posting photos from the Bahamas, and try contacting them directly.

Just because no one else is asking for help on an obscure country right now doesn't mean that there's no one around who knows about that obscure country.

Australia isn't so bad. There's the Great Barrier Reef and Ayres Rock, all that jazz. If you like adventure and scenery then going across the Simpson desert is interesting or going to the Kimberleys. There is diversity in the flora and fauna at least, and the weather is nothing like UK weather. I guess some crazy people prefer heat to cold weather? There must be something about Australia that makes people go back. Melbourne is one of my all time favourite cities, I'd love to live there for a while one year.
