Saving Money in Melbourne

Hello!

The thing about web designing is that it can be done from anywhere in the world, and there are lots of bright youngsters in Asia who will do it for little money.

Whether you can save money depends on if your boyfriend has a job and how much he earns. Australia is not cheap, and people tend to live to their income, and maybe a bit more.

Where are you currently living? Are you from country Vic? I would highly recommend against moving to Melbourne until you both have jobs lined up.

A studio apartment in the CBD will cost you about $350 per week, and one bedrooms will start at about $400, but those are not much larger than studio apartments. If you live in the CBD, you will save on petrol/transport costs and nightlife will be easier as you can walk home instead of wasting $100 on cabs. Suburban renting can net you a nice family home with 2-3 bedrooms for roughly the same price, but then you must factor in the transport and convenience cost of traveling 1.5 hours to work everyday.

But if you are determined, it is easy to save money, it just requires a lot of discipline. I know a lot of people who complain about how they can't save money, then proceed to blow $300 on a saturday night. Keep the partying down to a minimum (as a standard pint of local beer will cost you about $8) and you will be fine.
