Flying into darwin or cairns in May

Hi there, I am planning to fly into Darwin on the 8th May and am wondering is there much to do in it. Not to sure how long I plan to stay there for as I am in Oz for 7months. Is there much sightseeing to be done in Darwin? If there wasnt much to do but if jobs were easy to get then I would stay for a while to make some money.

There's not much to do in Darwin itself but it's worth spending some time there so you can visit and National Parks as both are beautiful. You can do them separately or there are tours which combine the two.

I've never done the journey from Darwin to Cairns but it's a long way and I don't think there is much to see in between so you might be better off flying.

The night markets in Darwin are quite interesting it'd be worth checking them out while you're there. As bex76 said Kakadu and Litchfield National Park is close by and both are awesome!

I quite liked the drive from Cairns to Darwin and the outback feel of the place, there were a number of sights I enjoyed:
- Douglas hot springs and Butterfly Gorge
- Katherine Gorge
- Bitter Springs in Mataranka
- Devils Marbles (detour off route)
- Camping on the Barkley Tablelands
- Mt Isa, aboriginal paintings, Mary Kathleen abandoned uranium mine
- Undara lava tubes
- Atherton tablelands

It is a long drive though so if you're pressed for time then flying would be an easier option.
