asking female travellers

Hey gals

My gal travels with a basic make-up kit. She doesn't wear much day-to-day doing normal things but if she's going out somewhere nice at night to a high-end restaurant, disco, club or crashing an embassy party then of course she gets tarted up.

Her hairstyle is low maintenance, doesn't require a hair drier, etc. and she uses lots of hair ties with a bandanna, ball cap, etc. She gets a styling and hair colouring every month or so whenever we pass through a place that passes for civilization; that's when she stocks up on feminine hygiene too because many of the places we go these products are not readily available.

One "party" outfit - the quintessential black cocktail dress with appropriate shoes means the nighttime salsa club or embassy party is handled plus a couple of sets of "normal" day-to-day-clothes plus beach wear plus everything else... it all easily fits into a carry-on size 35 litre backpack.

Have fun with your research and packing.

Cheers,
Terry

Cheers for the insight Terry!

I don't bring any more make up than mascara. If you are a light packer or on a budget .. you can just use the samples in a department store.

I've gotten my hair dyed and cut while traveling for actually less than in the states. As long as you know the language. I find that younger travelers, if they have the money, (I did this and didn't spend more than $20) will by a dryer or flat iron in the country they travel to. No worries about blowing an outlet or having an adaptor.

Feminine hygiene products... yea for more than a month.. I'll bring a box.

Yea, you can always grab a 2nd outfit or pair of heels on the spot, where you're going. Less is more in my case. If you find that you have a basic attire, you can always get souvenir accessories and doll up.
