I have a WHV and hope to go in November to Sydney where I hope to work for as long as possible before travelling and seeing some more of the country with some fruit picking on the way.
yea $3000. thats' what i brought. i guess if you plan on traveling to neighboring countries you'll want to bring more to cover your flights. on average the minimum wage in Oz is $14-20 AUD.

hey jo my names chris im 23 and from southend heading out to cairns around october and hopefully working my way round to sydney for christmas and new years im in the same boat aint got a clue on how much to take but was thinking around the £5000 as ill be on a whv for a year i think at the end of the day i think you would defently get by with taking £3500 but i spose the more you take the more you spend lol
but hey if your out there the same time let me know as im willing to meet up with people as im traverling alone

I booked my accommodation 2wks ago. Thought I'd just check out the availability today and it's fully booked, crazy!!! just glad I have that sorted now!!

OMG OMG NO!!! Wake up is huge.. ridiculously huge. Which is cool IF you are never in your room .. EVER, and want to meet people, but you will do that in any hostel in Syd. Go around the corner and stay @ 790 on George. WAYYYY better. The rooms @ Wake up for a 6 bed.. is so small and really there should only be 2 beds in there. The lockers.. you wont' be able to fit your pack in it or your passport. They skimp you on room to get 500 beds. 790 has much more roomy rooms.. Like you could fit comfortably 10 bed in a 6 dorm and the lockers are MASSIVE. Oh, yea, it's also way cheaper.
Or the HI but at the rail station NOT the central location. And forget anything in King's Cross if you expect a clean bathroom.
